CACS Davao: Mindanao’s Culinary Destination

Mindanao is a melting pot of cultures and peoples that bring a sense of history & cultural experience into the dining table.  The highly acclaimed Mindanao Culinary Festival,an annual culinary arts event,  is a testament to the skill of Mindanaoans in preparing food.

Restaurants blooming in the city shows that there is indeed a space for more creativity in making the most of our nature’s bounty.  We do not only take pride in our fruits and vegetables, we also have an excellent harvest of fish and seafood, poultry and all sort of meats from this vast and blessed place.

An international culinary art school in Mindanao is the vision of Gene Bangayan,  a prime mover in the tourism industry and Chef Gene Gonzalez, a highly admired gourmet celebrity chef with a top rating 27-year old restaurant, Cafe Ysabel, who is also the founder of CACS-Manila. The consortium of the two Gene’s gave birth to the first ever Culinary school in Mindanao, CACS-Davao.  Now, students who are eager to learn this highly sought-after skills will no longer have to spend a fortune to learn culinary arts in Manila or Cebu.

The school takes pride in it’s huge kitchen with state of the art facilities and equipment which was shipped from USA and China.  The number of students are limited to only 25 students to ensure the quality of instruction.

With just barely a month in existence, the enrollment rate is steadily increasing and the profiles of the student widely varies with some of them coming from as far as Cagayan de Oro City,  Marbel, South Cotabato and General Santos.  In the next  two years, the school aims to reach out to other South East Asian countries.

Mindanao as they say is home to a multi-ethnic people.  It is also a home to a variety of gustatory delights that makes dining such a pleasure. CACS-Davao therefore,  is just in time to make Mindanao a part of the culinary world map.
